Levelland Main Street Program Committees
The purpose of the Organization Committee is to understand the Main Street approach to downtown revitalization and organization; develop an effective organization with clear goals and work plans for all areas of the program; and build an effective and efficient committee. Current Main Street projects being administered by the Organization Committee include: managing staff and volunteers by recruiting, engaging, retaining, training and rewarding good work; engage business and property owners to help spread the word about the Main Street Program; setting up and managing local awards programs such as the Main Street Hero, the George R. Keeling Main Street Award and Levelland Legacy awards; increase awareness of Downtown Levelland as a destination. In 2017, our Ladies Night Out event was a finalist for Best Promotional Event in the Texas Downtown Association President's awards.
The job of the Promotion Committee is to promote downtown as the center of commerce, culture, and community life for residents and visitors alike. Members need to be able to understand the changing market, both potential shoppers and your competition; identifying downtown assets including people, buildings, heritage, and institutions; defining Main Street’s market niche its unique position in the marketplace; and finally creating new image campaigns, retail promotions, and special events to lure people back downtown.
A special sub-committee of the Promotion committee in the form of Marketing Task-Force team was established in 2017 to maintain and review all marketing efforts across the program.
Current events coordinated by the Promotions Committee include:
Preservation Month Activities
Levelland Sip & Swirl
Movie on the Square
Levelland Festival of Lights & Christmas on the Square
The Revitalization Committee is a combination of two key aspects of the Main Street Program:
Design plays a key role in shaping the physical image of Main Street as a place attractive to shoppers, investors, business owners, and visitors. The committee provides education to others about good design, enhancing the image of each business as well as that of the district; providing good design advice, encouraging quality improvements to private properties and public spaces, planning Main Street’s development, guiding future growth and shaping regulations; and motivating others to make changes, creating incentives and targeting key projects.
Economic Vitality identifies new market opportunities for the traditional commercial district, find new uses for historic commercial buildings, and stimulate investment in property. Some of the Committee’s major responsibilities in relation to Economic Vitality are: learning about the districts current economic condition and identifying opportunities for market growth; strengthening existing businesses and recruiting new ones; developing financial incentives and capital for building rehabilitation and capital for building rehabilitation and business development; and monitoring the economic performance of the district.
If you would like to be a part of any of these committees or any other volunteer opportunity of the Main Street Program please contact our office at 894-9079.
